Overview
IGF-1 LR3 is a synthetic analog of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), built as an 83-amino-acid polypeptide carrying two structural changes from the native sequence: an arginine substitution for glutamic acid at position 3, and a 13-amino-acid extension at the N-terminus. Together these changes reduce the peptide's binding affinity for IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs), which in turn extends its half-life and bioavailability relative to native IGF-1.
In biochemical research, IGF-1 LR3 is used to study activation of the IGF-1 receptor and its downstream intracellular signaling cascades, as well as cellular growth mechanisms more broadly, including protein synthesis, cell differentiation, proliferation, and metabolic regulation, in laboratory and cellular research models.
